Whatever Mumbai Champs do, they will end their 1st season at the bottom of the points table and things may have been better for their if Lara was there with them. Hyderabad Heroes can move to 2nd  position and also ensure them semi-final berth.

Another four matches left and most likely we will know all the semi-finalists by tomorrow.

Oct 27, 2008, Mon (ICL Match 21) Mumbai Champs lost to Dhaka Warriors by six wickets with six balls to spare in a day and night encounter at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon on Monday.

Opener Shahriar Nafees (57) and Alok Kapali (48) were the architects behind the Warriors victory over Champs.

Nafees knock contained nine fours and one six and came off 40 balls.

Kapali, who started slowly, raised the momentum of the Dhaka team as he scored four fours and three sixes.

Warriors did not have a great start as opener Nazimuddin was struck plumb by van der Wath when their score was 15.

However, Aftab Ahmed (23) struck few blows and with his partner Nafees put on 54 runs for the second wicket.

Aftab was claimed by Shreyas Khanolkar when the score was 69.

Dhiman Ghosh (13) and Kapali put on an unbeaten partnership of 39 for the fifth wicket to take their side to a victory with six balls to spare.

Mumbai Champs, who were put into bat by Dhaka Warriors, started shakily as they lost both the openers for 30.

Hasan Raza (17) and Taufeeq Umar (28), who put on 39 runs for the third wicket, steadied Champs innings to an extent.

But, again wickets fell in a heap as Mumbai team was struggling at 77 for the loss of six wickets after 13.1 overs.

Ranjit Khirid, who played a superb knock of 54 runs of just 25 balls, had an unbeaten 74 runs partnership for the seventh wicket with Johan van der Wath (18).

This pair was instrumental in taking the Mumbai team to a respectable total of 151 for 6 off the stipulated 20 overs.

Mohammad Sharif was the most expensive bowler for the Warriors conceding 40 runs off four overs, while Mosharraf Hossain, who took two wickets giving away 20 runs, was their most successful.

Kapali was adjudged the ‘man of the match’ for his unbeaten knock and claiming one wicket while bowling.

Oct 23, 2008, Thu (ICL Match 16) Mumbai Champs lost to Lahore Badshahs by eight wickets in a day and night encounter at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Imran Nazir led Badshahs to emphatic win as he scored an unbeaten 83 off 38 balls.

Nazir earned the man of the match award for his  knock, which contained nine sixes and five fours.

Skipper for Badshahs Inzamam-ul-Haq (27) joined Nazir when the team’s score was 67 for two.

The pair put on an unbeaten partnership of 74 runs as Badshahs won the match easily in 13.2 overs.

Mumbai Champs, who were put into bat by Lahore Badshahs, got off to a solid, but a relatively slow start.

Their openers Taufeeq Umar and Dheeraj Jadhav put on 84 runs for the first wicket in 13.1 overs before the former was caught by Hafiz Khalid off Tahir Mughal.

Umar (41) scored his runs off 42 balls

Later, Dheeraj got out while upping the tempo of Champs innings for 57 off 46 balls, which contained seven boundaries.

Disciplined bowling by Badshahs ensured that Champs lost two more wickets.

But, late onslaught by Hasan Raza (17), who scored two sixes, and Kiran Powar (12) saw to it that Champs reached 140 off their stipulated 20 overs losing five wickets.

Mohammad Sami was the most expensive bowler for Badshahs as he gave away 27 runs off three overs, while Mughal was their most successful bowler claiming three wickets after conceding 28 runs off four overs.

Openers Imran Nazir, in particular, and Imran Farhat (21) gave Badshahs a great start as the pair slammed 59 runs off just 2.5 overs.

Nazir thrashed Michael Kasprowicz for 30 runs in the bowlers first over.

Johan van der Wath claimed Farhat, who was caught by Kiran Powar.

ICL Mumbai Champs Lose to Royal Bengal Tigers, 11th, Match Highlights

October 20th, 2008 Comments Off Posted in 20-20, ICL, Match Highlights, Twenty 20

October 19 (ICL Match 11) Royal Bengal Tigers beat in a closely contested day and night encounter played at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

In a day and night encounter, Royal Bengal Tigers won the toss elected to bat and scored 170 runs.

Opener Hamish Marshall gave a flying start to the Tigers by scoring 55 off 38 balls. His knock included four boundaries and three sixes.

The bowling attack of Mumbai Champions didn’t prove to be much effective as only four wickets fell in the entire innings of Tigers.

Avinash Yadav, who gave 40 runs and took 2 wickets, proved the most costly bowler for Mumbai Champs.

The Tigers though lost their 4 wickets at frequent intervals before the innings ended.

Rohan Gavaskar scored a blistering 30 runs in just 12 balls helping Tigers to attain a decent run rate of 8.5.

Lance Klusener also scored 30 off 21 balls and remained unbeaten alongside Gavaskar.

This pair put on 49 runs for the fifth wicket.

Mumbai Champs lost an early wicket in Opener Taufeeq Umar, who was out for a duck when his team also did not get off the mark.

Nathan Astle and the other opener Dheeraj Yadav stabilized Champs innings as both put on 55 runs for the second wicket.

But, Nathan Astle, who was batting well on 32 off 31 balls, played an ambitious shot only to be caught by Abhishek Jhunjhunwala off Andre Adams.

Three more quick wickets only added to Mumbai team’s woes, with Eklak Ahmid picking up two.

However, late counter-attack by Johan van der Wath (35) and Subhojit Paul’s 32 off 14 balls raised the Champs hopes off wining the match.

Abu Nechim bowling the last over took two wickets and helped the Tigers win by 12 runs.

Rohan Gavaskar was named the ‘man of the match’.
