England v Australia, 6th ODI, Trent Bridge Match Highlights

September 18th, 2009 Comments Off on England v Australia, 6th ODI, Trent Bridge Match Highlights Posted in Australia, England, Match Highlights, NatWest Series, One Day Match

Scoreline : Australia 296 for 8 (Paine 111, Hussey 65, Anderson 4-55) beat England 185 (Hopes 3-32) by 111 runs

Strauss: “It was a horror show with the bat. The crowd’s frustrated, and there’s none more frustrated than I am. As your confidence erodes, more errors creep in. You’ve got to keep playing positive but we haven’t done that tonight and we were well beaten. Our performances have been consistently bad, and we have the Champions Trophy with the same squad, so we need to deliver. Graham Onions might play in Durham. It’s not a nice position to be in right now, and I hope we realise it’s a chance for us to move forward.”

Ponting: “Another good performance, the total was always going to be a good one. It was good to see Paine play so well, great to see him get his first century. Hussey, White and Hopes did a good job as well. The idea of Siddle coming in as well as Hopes was to give the guys some time out in the middle ahead of the Champions trophy. We pride ourselves on the fielding, and I was glad it went well today. We’re back at No.1, we keep testing and challenging ourselves but we need to win in Durham to stay there.”

Paine, unsurprisingly, is the Man of the Match: “It’s a dream come true. I capitalised on the start today and I was rapt, though I was a bit of nervous in the 90s.. My job is to bat for long periods and rotate the strike. It always helps to have the experience of Hussey at the other end.”

Watch cricket highlights of the Compaq Cup Final – India vs Sri Lanka – played on September 14, 2009 at Colombo.

Scoreline : India 319 for 5 (Tendulkar 138, Yuvraj 56*, Dhoni 56) beat Sri Lanka 272 (Kandamby 66, Harbhajan 5-57) by 46 runs

Sangakkara: “At the end it turned out to be quite a good game. When you are in form, you have to maximise the opportunities. We were in the hunt till the end. Kandamby was once again the lynchpin of our middle-order. If we had couple more wickets in hand, we could have maximised our powerplay. When you think positive, don’t worry about the conditions, trust your team-mates to do their job, you can do a lot. I would like to thank Paul Fabrace for his amazing work.” [on his dismissal] : laughs.. You find new ways to get out. It was probably the only way I would have got out there tonight.”

Most stylish player of today’s game: Harbhajan Singh gets a bike. “It was a very important for us to win. All the boys chipped in. We could have fielded and bowled a little better … My job was to contain the runs, put pressure and take wickets.”

Man of the Match and Man of the series Sachin Tendulkar : “It’s been lot of fun out there. The conditions were difficult. MS and Yuvraj played a special innings. Fantastic effort from Bhaji and supported by others. Good team-effort. I lost all my nails. Congrats to Sri Lanka for producing some fantastic cricket. I would also like to thank the crowd. The body is holding up pretty well. few cramps and stuff but it’s holding up pretty well.”

Dhoni [All’s well that ends well?] ” No really, You got to learn from your mistakes. We made quite a few today on field. As a team we didn’t field well. Thanks to characters in the side, we ended up on the winning side. It’s very special to us. We are winning here after a long time. If you are the second best team, you can’t make these kind of mistakes. Hopefully next time, we won’t give width and bowl short to Dilshan. As a Indian side, when you lose a Tri series, when you go to press box, you know what the first question would be! So, it’s a nice to win. Rahul accepted to bat in the top’; we didn’t want to shuffle him down the order as he can really bat well at the top.” [On whom you would like to dedicate this trophy?] To Raj Singh Dungarpur.”

New Zealand 141 for 8 (Taylor 60, Malinga 2-21) beat Sri Lanka 137 for 9 (Dilshan 57, Oram 3-32) by three runs

Post-match presentation: Sangakkara: “With the start we had, not chasing 142 is inexcusable … I think Dilshan has matured a lot over the past couple of years and is maximising his opportunities, unfortunately we couldn’t support him today”

Vettori: “The fightback after we got Dilshan was really impressive. He’s been the difference between the two sides in the Tests and today, and it’s difficult to bowl to him given the wide range of shots he has… Our death bowling was the best display in a long time … The fielding really stands out int Twenty20. ” Vettori is also the Man of the Match.

Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka, 1st ODI: Sri Lanka v Pakistan at Dambulla, Jul 30 2009, Match Highlights

Sri Lanka 232 for 9 (Mathews 43, Murali 32, Aamer 3-45) beat Pakistan 196 (Gul 33, Thushara 3-29, Kulasekara 2-30, Murali 2-46) by 36 runs

Younis Khan says the problem is that they are unable to forge partnerships in the top order. He also wants better fielding from his side. He praises Mohammad Aamer for his tight bowling on debut.

Sangakkara: “We let it get away a bit at the end, perhaps we got a bit complacent.” He says the win is a result of a team performance, with many players chipping in. He ends by saying:” I’m proud to have such depth of talent and ability in the dressing room.”

Murali is the Man of the Match. “I’m taking my batting a bit more seriously. As far as bowling goes, with Mendis out, there was more pressure on me, and I’m glad I could justify my place in the side.”

2nd ODI: England v West Indies at Bristol, May 24, 2009 match highlights

May 25th, 2009 Comments Off on 2nd ODI: England v West Indies at Bristol, May 24, 2009 match highlights Posted in England, Match Highlights, One Day Match, West Indies

Score Line : England 161 for 4 (Collingwood 47*, Bopara 43) beat West Indies 160 (Bravo 50, Broad 4-46, Collingwood 3-16) by six wickets

Gayle: "We have to put this behind us. We’ve stressed on putting runs on the board. We may have to change things a bit. It was a decent wicket and England utilised it better. Edgbaston is a final for us. There’s no two ways about it."

Strauss: "We put them under pressure right from ball one. We’d like to finish off the series. Broad and Anderson are chatting a lot together. In ODIs taking the pace off the ball is important. I’m happy with the balance with the side. Things are going really nicely here."

Colly is the Man of the Match: "I was trying to leep it as straight as possible and it nipped around a bit. We had the better of the conditions today. People are enjoying the cricket."

"Twenty20 is bad type of cricket because if you start losing you keep on losing, I don’t want us to go that way"

Yuvraj Singh: "If we had lost this game, I don’t know where I’d hide my face. Our bowling was excellent, and our batting was decent. Anything between 120 and 140 was chase-able. Hopefully, Jayawardene gets back to full fitness soon, we need to bat well."

Score Card:

Delhi Daredevils 157 for 1 (Gambhir 71*, Dilshan 42*) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 154 for 3 (van Wyk 74, Sangwan 2-29) by nine wickets

McCullum: "It’s disappointing, and for most parts of the game we were in the match, but we dropped too many catches. We fell around 20 runs short, but all three guys played exceptionally well in their team. There are some positives but it’s hard to get the momentum back when you’re losing."

Gambhir is the Man of the Match: "It was very important for us to win this game, the teams are very close in this tournament. 154 was always chaseable, and Amit Mishra and Ashish Nehra bowled well. I am not spotting the ball well, but I was happy I batted through. Dilshan, the way he has been batting this tournament, it won’t be long before he gets his orange cap."
