Pakistan vs Sri Lanka – 3rd Test – Day 5 – Cricket Highlights

July 27th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Cricket Videos, Match Highlights, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Test Match
Pakistan 299 and 425 for 9 dec drew with Sri Lanka 233 and 391 for 4 (Sangakkara 130*, Mathews 64*)

Vaas: “It’s a special moment for me after playing for 15 long years. I’d like to thank all the cricket lovers for supporting me throughout in my career. I’d like to thank my family for their love and support.”

Younis, big smiles as usual

Younis: “They built good partnerships and Sangakkara played really well. But it’s not too bad. We created chances in this series but the collapses cost us badly. The balls get soft very quick and the wicket slowed down quite a bit today. We just need to go and hang in there and learn to finish games. We have a good ODI team, with a couple of good allrounders, and hopefully some of the players can carry their good form from this Test into the ODI series.”

Sangakkara is the Man of the Match for his match-saving innings.

Sanga: “We played a good fourth innings and the players got into some form which bodes well for the ODI series. Angelo is very mature for a guy so young, and hopefully we’ll see bigger and better things from him in the next 12-15 years. We missed Murali really badly, but it shows that the new guys who come in are hungry for success. If Dilshan was fit, and had we made a few more runs after tea, we would have considered going for a win but I think we made the right decision in the end. We look for to play some really professional cricket, and ensuring a good start and finish to each game. Vaas has been a great inspiration for generations of cricketers. We can pay him hundreds of millions of rupees but that won’t make up for his contribution to Sri Lankan cricket.”

Kulasekara has been named Man of the Series.

Kulasekara: “I’m very happy because I played all three Tests. This is my first Man-of-the-Series award.”

England vs Australia 2nd Test Day 5 Highlights

Watch cricket highlights: England vs Australia 2nd Test Day 5 from Lord’s played on July 20, 2009.

Scoreline: Australia 406 all out – Mitchell Johnson 63 | Andrew Flintoff 5 wickets, Swann 4

Ricky Ponting: “We’ve always enjoyed playing here, we’ve had a very proud record here. We were outplayed right through the course of the game, England have been the better team. We’ve got to bounce back pretty quickly.”

“I’m pretty proud of the way we fought the game out. Our bowling in the second innings was as good as it’s been through the series. But after lunch on day one we were chasing our tail.”

And there’s a clap going around Lord’s as Ponting comments on the umpiring: “It’s all irrelevant. We’ve been beaten by over 100 runs in a Test.” He says Australia can only focus on what they can do to improve.

Andrew Strauss steps up now with a gigantic grin on his face: “It’s been a really special victory. To win an Ashes Test match at Lord’s is something that plenty of guys have dreamed about over the last 50 or 60 years. We’re not going to get carried away, there’s plenty of time left in the series.”

And Strauss gives special mention to Flintoff, who he says was “magnificent” today. He also admits to a bit of indecision about whether to enforce the follow-on.

“Our medical team will be monitoring him over the coming days but we’re still confident of having a fit squad to pick from for the third Test,” Strauss says of Kevin Pietersen.

And the Man of the Match is … drum-roll … Andrew Flintoff. “A real team performance,” he says. Was there any chance Strauss could get the ball out of your hand this morning? “Mate, there was no chance.”

India vs New Zealand Day 5 Highlights 2nd Test

March 31st, 2009 Comments Off Posted in India, Match Highlights, New Zealand, Test Match

Watch cricket highlights – India vs New Zealand 2nd Napier Test Day 5 highlights.

Scoreline: India 476/4 – VVS Laxman 124 no, Gautham Gambhir 137, Yuvraj Singh 54 no. Match drawn.

With Gambhir eating up time and Laxman scoring as he normally does in the morning session, both time and the NZ lead were gradually wiped out until a stalemate situation forced the two teams to agree to a draw. Eventually, the post-tea session was mainly an exhibition in batting. Lovely hundred by VVS while Yuvraj helped himself to a 50 before calling it quits for the match.

SA Win Vs Australia Highlights 2nd Melbourne Test Day 5

Winning moments, celebrations & Interviews

Part 1

Cricket Highlights: South Africa chase 183 on the 5th day of the MCG test to beat Australia and win the series 2-0, with Sydney to come.

Scoreline: South Africa 183/1. Graeme Smith 75. Neil McKenzie 59 Hashim Amla 30

The video here features the winning moments and celebrations and interviews with Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Ricky Ponting, Brett Lee and Kallis.

A second straight run chase for South Africa and they do it again. The ease of the win with just 1 wicket down can tend to deny the time in the test match when they looked certain to lose it, but for a brilliant 166 by JP Duminy and Dale Steyn’s 76. All those years of pain South African cricket fans have endured as they watched their team stumble over themselves finally found some meaning at the MCG today.

In the meanwhile Tony Greig used the opportunity to rub it into his fellow Aussie commentators – It’s so convenient for Greig to choose a nationality to support. When South Africa wins, he’ll draw references to his birth country. If England does well, well he played for England. When Australia were doing well, he lived and worked there so he could stand on that side. When Sri Lanka did well, he’d go on about how his wife loves the country. And now in India, he works for the ICL, so that’s covered too.

South Africa vs Australia Day 5 Highlights Perth Test Cricket | De Villiers Hundred

December 25th, 2008 Comments Off Posted in Match Highlights, Test Match

AB De Villiers: 106. Jean Paul Duminy on debut 50.
Watch South Africa win vs Australia chasing the 2nd highest ever total – 414 runs, on the 5th day of the Perth Test. If Graeme Smith set it up on Day 4, AB De Villiers was at it today with a super century – 106 n.o. Great scenes at the end for a team that has messed up so many times over the years.

Kallis with his surprisingly attacking strokeplay yesterday made a useful 57. The main attraction today however was Jean Paul Duminy who came into this test in place of the injured Ashwell Prince. It’s quite remarkable – the similarities between the two. I remember Ashwell’s debut against Australia – the Aussies had piled on a mammoth 1st innings total and while South Africa disintegrated, Prince scored a brilliant 40 odd. Once Duminy settled in, he took on the role of the aggressor, while De Villiers played a I’m-not-going-to-get-out-of-this-place-until-I-see-it-through.
