ICL Chennai Superstars defeated Hyderabad Heroes, 14th, Match Highlights
Oct 21, 2008, Tue (ICL Match 14) Chennai Superstars defeated Hyderabad Heroes by 18 runs in a day and night encounter at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad on Tuesday..
Ian Harvey, who hit five sixes and three boundaries and also bowled the Heroes skipper Chris Harris, besides taking three catches, was instrumental in steering Superstars to victory.
Heroes, batting second, started disappointingly as they lost three wickets for just 21 runs, with James Maher (12), Abdul Razzaq (4) and Ambati Rayudu (4) back in the pavilion.
Thereafter, they lost their momentum and could not recover in the match.
Superstars, who won the toss and elected to bat, got off to a flying start as its openers Ian Harvey and Ganapati Vignesh put on 70 runs for the first wicket.
Harvey was in great nick as he scored 49 off just 21 balls before being caught by Heroes captain Chris Harris off Inder Shekar Reddy.
Vignesh (32) was caught by wicketkeeper Ibrahim Khaleel off Nicky Boje when Superstars were on 92.
Other batsmen like Russel Arnold (11) and Hemang Badani (20) started well, but did not capitalize on the start given by their openers.
The Superstars, who were 131 for five at one stage, got bowled out for 160 runs in 19.2 overs as rest of the batsmen got out without giving much resistance.
Harris was the most successful bowler for the Heroes with figures of 3/18 off four overs, while Stuart Binny was the most expensive bowler for Heroes as he conceded 37 runs of just two overs.
Heroes batsman Justin Kemp (12) started well and hit three boundaries but missed Nantie Hayward’s line only to be bowled.
Stuart Binny (4) flashed outside the off stump only to give a simple catch to Rajagopal Sathish off Hayward’s bowling again.
When Heroes were 51 for five, Boje and Harris came together and steadied their team’s innings.
However after a partnership of 44 runs, skipper Harris (15) was bowled by Harvey.
After Nicky Boje (38), who was bating well, was run out hopes of Heroes were dashed.
They ended their innings at 142 for the loss of nine wickets off the stipulated 20 overs.
Ian Harvey was deservedly named the ‘man of the match’.
ICL Chandigarh Lions defeat Chennai Superstars, 10th, Match Highlights
October 18 (2300 hrs) Chandigarh Lions defeated Chennai Superstars by eight runs in a day-night encounter played at Sardar Vallabhai Patel stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Lions, batting first, posted a total of 163 for loss of eight wickets in their stipulated 20 overs. Dinesh Mongia hit 47 runs off just 29 balls, while Gaurav Gupta scored 25 runs for the Chandigarh team.Pacer Nantie Hayward was the most successful bowler for the Superstars with his haul of four wickets for 21 runs. Chasing the modest total, Superstars lost wickets at regular intervals. R Sathish was the top scorer for the Chennai team with 38 runs, while Russel Arnold scored 35 runs. Pacer Daryl Tuffy and Andrew Hall led the Lions bowling attack, picking up three wickets each. Tuffy was well supported by Andrew Hall who too scalped three wickets at crucial stages of the match. Daryl Tuffy was adjudged the Man of the Match.
ICL Chennai Superstars Beats Ahmedabad Rockets, 6th, Match Highlights
October 14 (ICL Match 6) Chennai Superstars defeated Ahmedabad Rockets by 35 runs in a day and night encounter at the Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Disciplined bowling and tight fielding by Superstars made it difficult for Ahmedabad Rockets batsmen to score runs.
Ahmedabad Rockets lost both the openers – Ryan Campbell (5) and Parvez Aziz (2) with just 13 runs on board.
Reetinder Sodhi who put up scintillating batting performance during his last match against Delhi Giants, teamed up with captain Damien Martyn to take the score to 84.
Sodhi was run out on individual score of 22.
Soon after Sodhi’s departure, Martyn fell on 52 caught by Hariesh off Jesuraj.
After the departure of Martyn, Ahmedabad Rockets batsmen were unable to put up resistance against the Superstars bowlers and wickets fell at regular intervals.
Put into bat, Chennai Superstars scored 135 losing five wickets in 16 overs. The stipulated quota of 20 overs could not be bowled due to waste of time following power cut.
The target for Ahmedabad Rockets was revised to 143 in 16 overs according to the VGD system.
In the Chennai Superstars innings, Russel Arnold (46) and Ganapathi Vignesh (38) helped their team reach a score of 135 in 16 overs, after Superstars lost two early wickets.
Ian Harvey and Jaikumar Hariesh, both were run out when the scoreboard read five.
Arnold scored 46 off 38 deliveries. His innings was studded with four boundaries and a six, while, Vignesh scored 38 of 29 balls. He hit three sixes and two boundaries.
Sodhi picked up two wickets giving away 25 runs in three overs.
Kunal Lal proved to be the most expensive bowler for Ahmedabad Rockets.
Man of the match award was given to Russel Arnold.
