Watch cricket highlights of the 5th ODI – Sri Lanka vs India – played at Colombo on February 8, 2009.

Scoreline: SL – 320. Tilakaratne Dilshan 97 Kumar Sangakkara 84 (70), Sanath Jayasuriya 37. India 252 all out. Yuvraj Singh 73 (62), Ravindra Jadeja 60, MS Dhoni 53

The first half of the SL video has a slightly scrambled video signal, but some entertaining DD commentary to make up for it.

Sri Lanka, trailing 0-4 in the series, won their first toss and showed what they can do batting first. Ok, the Indian bowling attack wasn’t the usual bunch, but Sri Lanka did enough to show that the tosses probably didn’t help them compete at their best in this series. The Sri Lankan target-setting however came apart through a collapse of the middle order with 4 wickets falling in the space of 6 deliveries.

The Indian chase had hiding written across it except when Yuvraj Singh was on song, heading towards his 2nd 100 in the series after his 117 in the 3rd ODI. Ravindra Jadeja was one of the players thrown up by the IPL, especially in the Rajasthan vs Mumbai game. Today, he might not have looked seriously threatening, but was definitely unflustered and calm in his debut. Dhoni got another 50. At the start of it, he looked like he just might pull out the MS Dhoni of yore, but it eventually petered out into a meaningless knock. He also displayed his own strange interpretation of the Batting powerplay as he has done through the series.

For Tendulkar fans, who missed him in the last 2 games, Yuvraj in the post-match presentation invoked him by dedicating his Man of the Series Award to his guruji and his mum.

Toss: And at long last Jayawardene has won the toss and Sri Lanka will bat first. And since a lot of you have asked, Sachin Tendulkar is not playing.

Team changes: Predictable changes for India. L Balaji and Ravindra Jadeja come in for Praveen Kumar and Pragyan Ojha. For Sri Lanka, Mendis returns for Angelo Mathews and Thilan Thushara comes in for Dilhara Fernando.

India: 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Rohit Sharma, 6 Yusuf Pathan, 7 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Irfan Pathan, 10 L Balaji, 11 Ishant Sharma.

Sri Lanka: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 5 Thilina Kandamby, 6 Chamara Kapugedera, 7 Farveez Maharoof, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Thilan Thushara, 10 Muttiah Muralitharan, 11 Ajantha Mendis. India vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI Highlights

Watch India vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI highlights from Colombo, played on February 5, 2009. India won the toss and batted first.

Scoreline: India 332/5. Gautham Gambhir 150 (147). MS Dhoni 94, Suresh Raina 49 no. SL 216 – Sangakkara 56. India lead 4-0 this series and recorded their 9th win in a row following the 5-0 ODI win over England.

A day of 90s in world cricket. Earlier, Kevin Pietersen was out for 97 vs West Indies.

Was a bit surprised when Dhoni came out today at the fall of Sehwag – Rohit Sharma was picked in the side after resting Sachin Tendulkar (ridiculous decision, cos according to Law, no series should go by without viewers being given an opportunity to watch a Tendulkar special). Anyway, Sharma might as well have been given an opportunity to play a long one. The highlights here will never convey the true picture of any innings. While Dhoni did get 94 at more than a run a ball, with a couple of sixes included, it was frankly quite boring to watch. The intent basically appeared to be singles and Gautham Gambhir who scored at a lesser run-rate than Dhoni was more entertaining. For a naturally attacking batsman like Dhoni, his current game-plan of ensuring a win everytime he bats can be dangerous. It won’t be long before a smart captain throttles him when he just walks in – in fact, we’ve seen this happen several times including the IPL 2008 – Pragyan Ojha apart from his bag of domestic wickets, has primarily made it to the team cos of the web he was able to cast on Dhoni during the IPL. Sometimes, one tends to forget the basic premise of sport – win, win, win is a deceptive concept that has overridden the underlying premise – to entertain. It’s for this very reason that one will always remember Adam Gilchrist whereas Michael Bevan might have already faded away from memory.

Enough of that.

Suresh Raina today, finally played like he did in the early part of his career – that he came late in the innings definitely helped him make his choice of play.

The SL chase was the 96 World Cup stuff, with Dilshan doing a Kaluwitharana alongside Sanath Jayasuriya. Entertaining as it was, there were moments there when I felt Irfan Pathan’s career could be put on permanent hold. But he did get Jayasuriya with some smart bowling and added another two. It’s pretty hard for him to break into the team permanently though – the only two players he could possibly replace are his brother Yusuf or Praveen Kumar and neither look like making way at this point.

Kulasekara played a few stunning shots at the end, but the SL chase came apart as it has done through this series in the middle overs.

Pre-Game: India have already won this 2009 series, and lead 3-0. As far as I’m concerned, can’t wait to see Sachin Tendulkar turn it on – that’s if the umpires let him. Update: Well, apparently the team management’s brain has gone into overdrive and they’ve rested him and Zaheer. Rohit Sharma and Irfan Pathan are the replacements. So interesting viewing ahead, anyhow.

Indian coach Gary Kirsten remarks about how current India team can win matches even after resting few key players could have hurt Sri Lankan players ego and today is a great chance to prove Kirsten wrong. India lead the series 3-0 (Not to mention they already won it) decided to rest both Sachin and Zaheer, to give opportunity to other players on the bench and why not, when things are going good every move you make will look like a gr8 move.  Sri Lanka has too many things to sort out but important of them all is their batting, they need some big partnerships especially in high scoring matches (> 275). India vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Highlights

Watch Cricket Highlights – India vs Sri Lanka – 3rd ODI played at Colombo on February 3rd 2009.

Scoreline: India 363. Centuries from Yuvraj Singh 117 (95) and Virender Sehwag 116 (90). SL: 216 all out. Kumar Sangakkara 83 (82) Mahela Jayawardene 30.

Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag at their most primal. Even if you account for the miserable Sri Lankan fielding today, some of the shots played today are probably reserved only for these two players. Tendulkar got yet another poor LBW – third successive umpiring flaw in a row. The umpiring continued to clown around with Sehwag looking plumb on one occasion. Tendulkar however soon settled down in the balcony to watch the two best players in the world to have been wholesomely influenced by him, entertain.

Dhoni found himself today in the ideal situation to launch after the fall of Yuvraj and Sehwag, but yet again pulled out just one boundary in his knock of 35 (45). The only reason Indian didn’t flounder away the two sensational knocks was because of Yusuf Pathan 59 (38). Just think, India added only 98 runs in the last 15 overs at a run rate lesser than what was current at the time.

The Sri Lankan chase did have its moments particularly when Sangakkara and Mahela pulled out their best recent form. Muralitharan equaled Wasim Akram for the highest number of ODI wickets when he got Yuvraj today. And that was pretty much it.

PreGame: With India having taken a 2-0 lead and Sri Lanka’s apparent dependence on Jayasuriya swinging their fortunes, it’s going to be interesting to see if Lanka can keep the series alive by winning this game.

3rd ODI: Sri Lanka v India at Colombo (RPS), Feb 3 2009, Wealthnsurance Cup, Live Cricket Streaming

India lead the 5 match ODI series 2-0 and win here today means, India will be bagging another ODI series. Their ODI performances have been great lately and a series will boost their confidence to higher levels.  Sri Lanka need to win this match and next two matches if they want to keep series alive and win it and the way they are playing, I don’t think they can do that unless top order provide a solid start and middle order capitalize on it.
