Australia vs South Africa 5th ODI Highlights Perth

January 31st, 2009 Comments Off on Australia vs South Africa 5th ODI Highlights Perth Posted in Australia, CB Series, Match Highlights, South Africa

Watch cricket highlights from the Perth 5th and final ODI – SA vs Australia played on January 30, 2009.

Scoreline: SA: 288. Hashim Amla 97, JP Duminy 60 (42), AB de Villiers 60. Aus fall short: 249 all out. Brad Haddin 63, Mike Hussey 78.
South Africa win the series 4-1.

Watching South Africa set a target was quite interesting. For the initial part of their total, South Africa rebuilt through Amla and de Villiers, with both pulling out innovative strokes. Hashim Amla played a couple of Tendulkaresque shots (the over the slips shot he’d pulled out years back vs Alan Donald in South Africa) the patent to which has been handed down unsurprisingly to Virender Sehwag (the over the slip shot). Amla eventually fell short of a century – 97, while Duminy did what he did in the T20 games (Albie Morkel having been dismissed early).

You’d have to say that Australia appeared demoralized by the late Duminy assault – 98 runs came off the final 10 overs.

The Aussie chase never really kicked off, though when Ponting produced a couple of breathtaking drives, it appeared on. The Hussey brothers appeared to take the task of rebuilding the innings a bit to diligently and the result was a very late attempted chase through Mike Hussey and Brad Haddin.

Tsotsobe who had a few embarrassing moments with the bat on debut during the 1st T20 had a splendid game, having come in place of his idol Makhaya Ntini.

For the ranking-inclined, this win by South Africa has catapulted them to the No 1 position in ODI cricket. But they’d probably be happier at having pulled off another win despite the absence of Steyn, Kallis, Boucher and Ntini.

India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Highlights

January 30th, 2009 Comments Off on India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Highlights Posted in India, Match Highlights, Sri Lanka

Cricket Highlights: Sri Lanka vs India 1st ODI 2009 played at Dambulla on 28 January.

Scoreline: SL 246. Sanath Jayasuriya hundred (107). India win with a couple of overs to spare. Gautham Gambhir 62, MS Dhoni 61 no, Suresh Raina 54.

Sanath Jayasuriya on a slowish wicket walloped Munaf Patel in particular en route to 13000 runs in ODI cricket and yet another century vs India. All the while Munaf reacted with just a grunt here and there. I really miss those glorious Munaf days where joy, pain, frustration and anger were all expressed with accurate simplicity – “Cummon bhe*cho**.

A fantastic knock by Jayasuriya amidst severe exhaustion that stood starkly against most of the Sri Lankan middle order. Sangakkara helped Sanath out with 40 odd and Maharoof provided some hard hitting towards the end. SL didn’t make use of their batting power play getting just 28 runs and losing 2 wickets in those significant 5 overs.

Yusuf Pathan and Suresh Raina provided the funniest moment in cricket since Michael Hussey’s dropped catch; both staring at each other as the ball plonked mildly between them.

Gambhir played some stunning shots very fine, while the rest of the Indian chase was the current stuff you get from them. Raina and Dhoni doing the efficient, dependable stuff with Yuvraj and Rohit Sharma sparkling briefly. Raina did start with some fantastic shots but then settled into singles-mode, while Dhoni whacked a few straight fours later on.

Kumar Dharmasena reappeared today on an international cricket field as an Umpire but got Tendulkar’s decision wrong. To his credit, it wasn’t too far outside leg and this is Dharmasena’s first game.

And that was that.

As expected BCCI has scheduled this tour to cover losses after canceling India tour of Pakistan due to tensions between both countries after Mumbai strike and both Pakistan and India should be thankful to Sri Lanka for proposing tour despite their busy schedule in January.

Sri Lanka won recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan(2-1)  and seem to be in good form and now they will even have home advantage which will make it bit difficult for India team but India last ODI series was against England and they crushed England 5-0 in truncated series.  Should be interesting series ahead for all of us and let’s hope it will be very competitive one like Australia vs South Africa.

India: 1 Sachin Tendulkar, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Rohit Sharma 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt/wk), 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Pragyan Ojha, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Munaf Patel

SA vs Australia 4th Adelaide One Day from the CB Series 2009.

January 27th, 2009 Comments Off on SA vs Australia 4th Adelaide One Day from the CB Series 2009. Posted in Australia, CB Series, Match Highlights, South Africa

Cricket Highlights: SA vs Australia 4th Adelaide One Day from the CB Series 2009.

Fore-play: Australia 222 all out (48 overs). Ricky Ponting 63. SA: 223 (38.1 overs). AB de Villiers 82, Hashim Amla 80. Herschelle Gibbs – a blistering 38.

So SA have wrapped up the series with a game in hand. While Ponting (albeit at least one reprieve) was skimming along beautifully, Australia had the game in relative control but it was all South Africa after that.

When Australia toured India recently, I kept waiting for those famous Gilchrist type lower order counter-attacking innings from Shane Watson and Cameron White, which never happened. Now that all of us have slowly understood that what Gilchrist and Symonds (to a certain extent) did isn’t easy to do, maybe Brad Haddin needs to as well.

Herschelle Gibbs looked different on the field today after his fantastic knock in the 3rd Sydney ODI – more secure and happy that he’s back to contributing to the team and game. And that carried on when he came out to bat, while tearing into Mitchell Johnson – the two have been at each other over the last couple of games with Gibbs straddling Johnson on both occasions.

With the foundation of the run-chase set, De Villiers and Amla did the wrapping and parceling with ease.

Pre-Play: Injury news for both sides – Nathan Bracken replaced by Hilfenhaus, Cameron White comes in for Nathan Hauritz (no injury required for that change).

Boucher misses today after a Tait yorker squished his toe – De Villiers will handle that aspect, while Morne Morkel fills the vacant spot.

Don’t know what’s wrong with Aussie team but they look like just any other team and it’s not so easy to digest their performances after watching them dominating both ODI and Test cricket for more than a decade.

Australia currently trail the series 1-2 and need to win this match to stay alive in the series but looking at Australia performances in 1st three ODI’s, it will not be an easy task. South Africa may not get better chance again to win series against Australia in Australia and I think they should capitalize with two matches to go and only win required to seal the series.

3rd ODI: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Lahore, Jan 24 2009, Live Cricket Streaming

January 24th, 2009 Comments Off on 3rd ODI: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Lahore, Jan 24 2009, Live Cricket Streaming Posted in Live Matches, One Day Match, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

With three match series leveled at 1-1, everything will be at stake in important and final ODI of the series where winner today takes the cup. Really worry for Pakistan is their opening bowling pair and they need to do something with that if they want a fair shot at winning the series. Sri Lanka is doing okay with bat but if one of the big boys contribute  today then it will be even better for them. Lets hope today’s match will be an interesting one.

3rd ODI: Australia v South Africa at Sydney, Jan 23 2009, Highlights

Watch Cricket Highlights: Australia vs South Africa, 3rd One Day match played at the SCG – Sydney on January 23, 2009.

Scoreline: Australia 269. David Warner 69 (60). Botha 10-32-3. Albie Morkel eases the SA chase – 40 (22). Semi-Vintage Herschelle Gibbs 64 (52). Kallis 60. (got to 10000 runs in ODIs today). Nathan Bracken 9-29-1. 46.3 overs eventually was all it took SA.

With Dave Warner at it again, Australia raced to around 150 in 25 overs and then messed it up. Though Botha (in particular) and Duminy bowled well, it was more like Aus let them do so. In fact, many of the dismissals were pretty lame.

Even while fielding, Australia let slip several key moments that could well have won them the game – Gibbs and Amla dropped in the 1st Tait over, and Shaun Tait himself later dropping Albie Morkel with around 50 runs to get. Albie who was denied a chance to produce his magic in the 2nd ODI through poor rotation of strike, basically pulled this one off for SA after Gibbs had eaten into Tait and Mitchell Johnson.

Nathan Hauritz – there are some cricketers who come on the scene and you look at their face and just know they’re not going to do anything other than annoy you. David Hussey has looked a superior bowler whenever he has bowled and Hussey didn’t even bowl today. Just wish we could see Nathan bowling at Sehwag.

Prematch: It will be cool to see Mitchell Johnson back in action. Shaun Tait will also play tomorrow. The ones grumbling in a corner are Ryan Harris and Hilfenhaus.
