Oct 21, 2008, Tue (ICL Match 14) Chennai Superstars defeated Hyderabad Heroes by 18 runs in a day and night encounter at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad on Tuesday..

Ian Harvey, who hit five sixes and three boundaries and also bowled the Heroes skipper Chris Harris, besides taking three catches, was instrumental in steering Superstars to victory.

Heroes, batting second, started disappointingly as they lost three wickets for just 21 runs, with James Maher (12), Abdul Razzaq (4) and Ambati Rayudu (4) back in the pavilion.

Thereafter, they lost their momentum and could not recover in the match.

Superstars, who won the toss and elected to bat, got off to a flying start as its openers Ian Harvey and Ganapati Vignesh put on 70 runs for the first wicket.

Harvey was in great nick as he scored 49 off just 21 balls before being caught by Heroes captain Chris Harris off Inder Shekar Reddy.

Vignesh (32) was caught by wicketkeeper Ibrahim Khaleel off Nicky Boje when Superstars were on 92.

Other batsmen like Russel Arnold (11) and Hemang Badani (20) started well, but did not capitalize on the start given by their openers.

The Superstars, who were 131 for five at one stage, got bowled out for 160 runs in 19.2 overs as rest of the batsmen got out without giving much resistance.

Harris was the most successful bowler for the Heroes with figures of 3/18 off four overs, while Stuart Binny was the most expensive bowler for Heroes as he conceded 37 runs of just two overs.

Heroes batsman Justin Kemp (12) started well and hit three boundaries but missed Nantie Hayward’s line only to be bowled.

Stuart Binny (4) flashed outside the off stump only to give a simple catch to Rajagopal Sathish off Hayward’s bowling again.

When Heroes were 51 for five, Boje and Harris came together and steadied their team’s innings.

However after a partnership of 44 runs, skipper Harris (15) was bowled by Harvey.

After Nicky Boje (38), who was bating well, was run out hopes of Heroes were dashed.

They ended their innings at 142 for the loss of nine wickets off the stipulated 20 overs.

Ian Harvey was deservedly named the ‘man of the match’.
